Frontier Rodeo Company – 63rd Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Recap
Monday, December 13, 2021
We were blessed with another great year!
We had 15 head of livestock selected to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. On Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas Nevada it was lucky number 7 as we were named the 2021 PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year for the 7th consecutive time. Owner, Jerry Nelson is honored to win this award. In October the PRCA announced the Pendleton Whisky’s Let’er Buck Stock of the Year awards. We were very pleased to see that #16 Gun Fire was the Runner-up PRCA Bareback Horse of the Year. She’s a ranch raised mare that had an incredible year. They set records on her and were 90+ points 5 times throughout the year at some of the biggest rodeos in the PRCA and she added her sixth 90+ ride during the 10th round of the WNFR when Jess Pope was 92-points and won the round.
Frontier animals took cowboys to the pay window six times this past week, winning a total of $104,069.00 on our four-legged athletes. In round 3 we had eight animals out with some great matchups. Anytime you see Kaycee Feild’s name beside your animal you know you have a good chance of going to a buckle ceremony. Feild’s spurred his way to a 90-point ride on bareback #215- Full Baggage. That night we had the privilege of sharing the stage with one of the greatest Bareback Riders of all time and received a go-round buckle presented by Montana Silversmiths. Tim O’Connell placed 5th on #285 Ace of Spades in the 3rd round as well. In the 8th round Stetson Wright placed 5th in the bull riding on #755 Glory Days with an 83-point ride. In round 9 Clayton Biglow split 3rd on #28 Painted Smoke with an 86.5-point ride. In the bareback riding the World Championship came down to round 10 and two guys, who would walk away with a gold buckle? Kaycee Feild or Jess Pope. We were excited to see Jess Pope’s name beside #16 Gun Fire, he rode great all week and we knew this could be outstanding. He spurred his way to the top with a 92-point ride, the round win, and the horse he needed to help him secure his 2nd WNFR Average title. Creek Young split 2/3 in the bull riding on #78 County Jail with an 88-point ride. #16 Gun Fire was also voted the 2nd place Bareback Horse of the WNFR and #535 Southern Star was 3rd.
We would like to thank our families, friends, and our outstanding “Frontier” crew. Thanks to the rodeo committees that hire us, to the contestants that enter our rodeos and the RODEO FANS! Thanks to our sponsors American Hat Company, Justin Boots and Wrangler for keeping our crew looking sharp in and out of the arena. None of this would be possible without all of you. It was good to be back in Las Vegas. Thank you to Las Vegas Events and the PRCA for the greatest 10 days in rodeo!
Congratulations to the 2021 PRCA World Champions. We hope to see you at a Frontier Rodeo in 2022.
